We had talked about getting a slip and slide all summer while living in the apartment. So when the kids arrived at our house for the first time, we made sure to have a slip and slide waiting on them.
One day after naps, kids got their swimsuits on and I set up the slide, connected the hose, etc. An hour later, it was ready! I turned on the water and we all started yelling with excitement. I had plopped up my lawn chair, had a glass of ice tea and a new magazine; and was ready to do some relaxing. Visions had been running through my head all summer of this moment. Hours of squealing and giggling kids running and sliding all over the place.
So the water just had come on and the kids went and sat down on the slide! What! I thought kids were born with this skill. There was no way I was going to demonstrate to them how to run and flop on your belly in our front yard. Emmaline would run and then sit down on it. Davis started screaming because the wet grass was sticking to him and all up and down his legs. My dreams of summer glee were fading. I was sure the neighbors were peeking through their blinds at the "new" neighbors.
Now, I had a mess in the front yard. Crying kids and the mosquitoes had discovered us.
Wait I had an idea! Quickly I ran inside and came out with my laptop. They could watch people slip and slide on youtube! Thank heavens for technology.
I taped what they came up... Maybe the 5 plus age on the box really means something.
My hero, Reid, came home and saved the day. He cleaned up the whole yard and put everything away.
